Benefits

Meeting in a circle

As a SLaM employee, your work is of vital importance to mental health service users in the UK.

But share your passion and expertise with colleagues in countries like Sri Lanka, and you’ll gain more than you give: bringing home new insights, skills and experience to benefit SLaM and mental health in the UK.

By volunteering, you’ll have worked to improve support for some of the most disadvantaged service users in the world. Because you’ll have done so in partnership with Sri Lankan colleagues, your skills remain, carrying on working long after you have returned to the UK.

Everyone benefits. The Sri Lankan nurse, who is trained to handle aggression for the first time. The Sri Lankan service user, who gains financial independence through horticultural income. Your UK line manager, who retains your developed skills, fresh perspective and new ideas.

Quote:

'The ultimate beneficiaries from UK health professionals gaining international experience are NHS patients in the UK.'
